usnwc kids camps off to a great start.

this summer has been a hot one at the u.s. national whitewater center but we are still having a blast. kids camps is off to a great start. we have 3 different kids camps going on now, through the end of the summer. as much as i love teaching private lessons to adults, the kids camps are a blast. teaching kids is a little different from adults in the sense that they have no expectations as to how fast they are supposed learn. there is no better feeling than to have one your kids roll for the first time or boof into an eddy and pick up the correct edge (as silly as that sounds). i think i get happier than they do.

the kids learn basic paddle strokes and boat control, ferries, peel-outs, and the proper technique to roll a kayak. then, we have some fun and paddle some class I-II whitewater down the instruction channel. most like to swim the whitewater more than paddle but they have a good time regardless and thats what is all about... just having fun.

we have a great group of instructors this year and each camp gets better and better.
here are a few pictures from one of our camps.
